Sustainable Economy

Sustainable development is the idea that human societies must live and meet their needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Brundtland Report , 1987.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

These 17 Goals build on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals, while including new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities. The goals are interconnected – often the key to success on one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another.

  • Goal 1 aims to end poverty in all its forms and everywhere in the world by 2030
  • Goal 2 is to end hunger, ensure food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
  • Goal 3 aims to empower people to lead healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
  • Goal 4 aims to ensure equal access to quality education for all and promote lifelong learning opportunities.
  • Goal 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower women.
  • Goal 6 targets access to water, sanitation and hygiene services
  • Goal 7 aims to guarantee access for all to reliable, sustainable, modern energy services at an affordable cost.
  • Goal 8 aims to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
  • Goal 9 aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization that benefits everyone and encourage innovation.
  • Goal 10 aims to reduce inequalities within and across countries.
  • Goal 11 aims to make cities safe, resilient and sustainable.
  • Goal 12 aims to do more and better with less. To avoid draining the planet too much, it is important to modify our production or consumption behavior.
  • Goal 13 aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of anthropogenic origin and prevent the natural consequences caused by global warming
  • Goal 14 aims to conserve aquatic life and its resources to ensure its sustainability and biodiversity.
  • Goal 15 aims to preserve terrestrial ecosystems, by fighting against deforestation, desertification and land degradation.
  • Goal 16 aims to promote the emergence of peaceful and inclusive societies for the purposes of sustainable development, ensure access to justice for all and set up, at all levels, effective, accountable institutions, and opens to all.
  • Goal 17 aims at multi-stakeholder partnerships that will be essential to leverage the interconnections between the SDGs.

Sustainability will not be achieved by activists or savvy managers alone. "Sustainability" is a collective responsibility involving the participation of the company, NGOs, local and national public authorities and an international policy and vision providing for action on the entire value chain.

Certain countries and societies are more advanced than others, for sure, but sustainability only makes sense if it is global and generalized globally. Thus collaboration, partnership and sharing take on a whole new meaning and become essential and vital.

Collaborate, share knowledge and draw inspiration from other experiences. Sustainability is global and collective: it's only together that we will succeed.
